Regions, Counties, Districts and Cities:
There are 9 official regions in England. They have been split up into administrative counties, which are used for local government but do not however replace the historic counties.
Districts with (unitary) after them are unitary authorities; districts that administer their own local government but are still geographically associated with that county.
